Honour Board
The Cavaliers Netball Club was formed in 1995 to provide promising players from the North and North East with the opportunity to participate in netball at the highest level in Tasmania.
We are proud of our achievements that have been sustained from our first TNL season in 1996 to the present day. The table below shows that during this time the Cavaliers have been the most successful club, measured by the achievements of 19&U and Open teams.

Hall of Fame
TRACEE COOK - 2010 Cavaliers Hall of Fame Inductee
Presented by David Thomas
President, Cavaliers Netball Club
Our Hall of Fame inductee is the longest serving Cavaliers player. She has played for the Club since its inception for a period of 12 years from 1996-2004, 2006-07, and 2010. She has played over 250 games for the Club and has captained and coached Cavaliers Open teams and coached 19&U and 17&U teams.
She has been a member of six Cavaliers premiership teams: 1996 in the 21&Us; and in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2010 in the Open competition. She is also the most decorated Cavaliers player in terms of club awards:
1996 Cavaliers 21&U Most Valuable Player
1998 Cavaliers Open Most Valuable Player
1999 Cavaliers Open “Players Player” Award
2001 Cavaliers Open Best & Fairest
2002 Cavaliers Open Best & Fairest
2003 Cavaliers Open Best & Fairest
2004 Cavaliers Open Best & Fairest
2006 Cavaliers Open Best & Fairest Runner-Up
2007 Cavaliers Open Best & Fairest
She was named in the Cavaliers Team of the Decade 1996-2005, and is probably the most decorated player in TNL history:
1996 TNL 21&U Best & Fairest
1999 TNL “Players Player” Award
2000 TNL All-Star
2001 TNL Open Best & Fairest; TNL All-Star
2002 TNL All-Star
2003 TNL Open Best & Fairest Runner Up; TNL All-Star
2004 TNL Open Best & Fairest; Coach of the Year; TNL All-Star
2006 TNL Open Best & Fairest Runner-Up;
Coaches Most Wanted; All-Star
2010 TNL Open Best & Fairest; TNL All-Star
She has represented Tasmania in 1993, 1994 and 1995 (17&U); 1996 and 1997 (19&U); 1998 (Senior team) and in 1997 was a member of the Tasmanian Southern Lights Academy team which played in the Victorian State League competition.
Our inductee has been involved with the Cavaliers for 12 years of the Club’s history and has made an enormous contribution not only as a remarkably gifted and unassuming player but as a leader and role model.
Her formal leadership roles have included that of team captain or cocaptain in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007 and 2010.
She has also played an important role as a coach, most notably as 2004 playing coach of the Cavaliers Open team but also in other years as assistant coach of the 19&U team and as coach of the 17&U development team.
Our inductee and her family have instituted an award which is presented annually at the Cavaliers Best & Fairest award function which recognises a player who is supportive and encouraging; who displays a positive attitude towards their team and the Club; who has an excellent work ethic; and who accepts and supports team decisions.
Our inductee has been awarded the Support and Development (Carolyn Kirkpatrick) Award which recognises a player who makes significant contributions to Cavaliers beyond their capacity as a player in areas such as administration, sponsorship or fundraising, technical development (coaching/umpiring) or other important off-court areas.
In 2010, despite over 12 years of playing and other service to the Cavaliers, our inductee has continued to contribute to the Club: with the 17&U development team as a supporting coach; assisting with specialist coaching of the Open and 19&U teams at training sessions; and in organising team bonding and social sessions for the Open team.
It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to come up with a player held in higher esteem in Tasmanian netball than our inductee. Her playing style has featured an extraordinary athletic and aerial ability that has awed and inspired so many people. Testimony to her sporting and athletic abilities at the highest level was her award as the Best & Fairest player in both the NWBU (basketball) and TNL (netball) competitions in the same year.
Her record of playing achievement in the Cavaliers Netball Club and in the TNL competition surpasses other players. But her remarkable playing talent isn’t the extent of her quality as an outstanding netballer and person. She has remained a friendly, engaging and highly supportive person; committed to the team and Club; and with an ability to engender a sense of loyalty and camaraderie (and a sense of fun and enjoyment).
After many years of involvement in netball in Tasmania our inductee still takes time to nurture up-and-coming netballers. In season 2010 of the TNL she has travelled over 100kms to attend weekly Cavaliers training sessions (as she has done for many years). She continues to train as hard as any other player and to encourage and support all her team members and
younger players in the Club.
Our inductee’s commitment to netball extends beyond the Cavaliers Netball Club. She is passionate about encouraging and developing young netballers and has taken the time and effort to contribute over many years and in many ways: in after school programs in a number of school employment postings; as a coach of school netball teams; as a coach of junior teams in the Devon Association; and in providing specialist coaching sessions for a number of Tasmanian 15&U and other age representative teams.
An insight into our inductee is that she continues to give up her time on Saturdays to coach school netball teams – in a day and age when many teachers avoid such ‘extra-curricula’ duties because they are not paid or receive no formal recognition for such duties. And the morning after playing in a 2010 season semi-final for Cavaliers she volunteered to play as part of a team to provide match practice for the State 15&U team.
Our inductee is a person people aspire to emulate on and off the court – she enjoys life and the company of people. She has outstanding knowledge of and experience in netball that she shares generously with other players. But she remains genuinely humble about her own outstanding abilities.
Tracee Cook (nee Bullman) has been, is and will remain an inspiration and role model to netball players in Tasmania – and a role model as a person. Would you join me in congratulating our first inductee into the Cavaliers
Hall of Fame, the one and only Tracee Cook.
AMANDA COWLEY - 2013 Cavaliers Hall of Fame Inductee
Presented by Chris Carstens
Vice-President, Cavaliers Netball Club
The 2013 Hall of Fame inductee played 10 seasons and over 200 games for the Cavaliers.
She was an exceptional player who was tough, strong and possessed with a huge “motor” and will to win. She had an uncanny ability to read the game, adjust her play and influence the momentum of the game. Her ability to receive the centre pass time after time continually frustrated her opponents.
She was a player who moved gracefully on the court and her preliminary moves and her ability to create space off the ball looked effortless. She had an exceptional ability to drive onto the circle and feed pin-point passes to her goalies.
Fellow Cavaliers players and opponents had a huge amount of respect for this player on and off the court. Her dedication to training and fitness was something other players aspired to.
She has been a member of five Cavaliers premiership winning teams and has been a highly influential Club leader and team captain.
She has been recognised within the Cavaliers, in the State League and by her peers with awards including Cavaliers Most Valuable Player and a number of State League All-Star awards. She was named in the Cavaliers Team of the Decade 1996-2005.
During her playing career this player was widely recognised as among the elite players in Tasmania and was a member of the 1997 Tasmanian Southern Lights team that participated successfully in the Victorian State League competition. She also represented Tasmania with distinction as a representative player at 19&U and 21&U levels.
Our Hall of Fame inductee has remained actively involved with the Cavaliers through the full period of the Club’s history from 1996. She has made enormous contributions to Cavaliers not only as an elite player, leader and role model but also as a dedicated committee member and as a generous and influential Club sponsor, financial supporter and adviser.
During her playing years she served regularly in Cavaliers’ committee roles as a player representative and led numerous fundraising and social events including auctions and gala balls. She has been the prime mover and organiser of a number of major functions, and was a key contributor to the planning and organisation of the Cavaliers 2013 Gala event (which recognised players with 100 or more games for the Cavaliers).
As a player our inductee was also involved in Club junior development activities and coaching clinics and in 2003, 2005 and 2006 she was the recipient of the Club’s Support and Development award sponsored by Carolyn Kirkpatrick. This award recognises a player who makes significant contributions to Cavaliers beyond their capacity as a player.
Our inductee has continued to make major contributions to the Cavaliers. She and her partner have been significant financial benefactors, sponsors and astute advisers of the Club. They have provided great assistance with marketing, promotions and communication, have sponsored a number of players and have helped negotiate financial sponsorship with other businesses.
Our inductee assists the Club each year with team selections and wherever and whenever there is a need or she is asked. She and her partner have done this quietly and without seeking recognition. She regularly attends Cavaliers matches to support and encourage the new generation of Cavaliers players and her involvement with the Cavaliers Netball Club has been ongoing, substantial, invaluable and greatly appreciated.
The Cavaliers Netball club has been extremely fortunate to have had so many players, coaches, officials and members who are “quality people”. This as much as anything else accounts for the Club’s outstanding record of success and also the harmonious Club environment.
Amongst a number of quality people in the Cavaliers, our inductee stands out. She has been an outstanding netball player – a quick and incisive wing attack with exceptional passing and feeding skills. She has a distinguished playing record as a member and team captain of five premiership teams for the Cavaliers. And she has been a strong influence on and role model for a number of Cavaliers players. Her gentle, respectful, friendly and caring nature has made our inductee a natural leader amongst her peers.
It would be difficult to find someone who is as respected and well liked in netball and in wider community circles as our inductee because of her generosity and modesty. She is a very caring person, loyal and supportive of her family, friends and her Club – the Cavaliers.
In 2010 Cavaliers inducted Tracee Cook (nee Bullman) as its inaugural player in the Hall of Fame. The 2013 inductee is extremely worthy of recognition as the second, highly distinguished Cavaliers player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
I am delighted to announce the induction of Amanda Cowley (nee Prewer) to the Cavaliers Hall of Fame.
DANNIE CARSTENS - Hall of Fame Nomination
Dannie Carstens is arguably the games record holder for the Cavaliers having played for fourteen seasons for the Club (2001-2010 and 2012-2015). During this time she has represented the Club with distinction in perhaps 300 or more games.
As a player Dannie has been a member of five Cavaliers Open premiership teams (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2013). In two of these years she was a player coach (2010 and 2013) and in 2006 (as an Open team player) she was coach of the 19&U premiership winning team.
Dannie received the Cavaliers 19&U B&F award in 2002 and has been recognised with six Open B&F awards in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2015.
Last year Dannie was described in the Mercury Newspaper as one of the most decorated players in TNL history. She was awarded TNL Open B&F in 2009 and Runner Up in 2014; TNL Coaches Most Wanted Player in 2009 and 2013; and TNL Open Coach of the Year in 2010, 2012 and 2013. She has been recognised with ten TNL Open team All Star nomination awards as goal defender in 2004-2007, 2009-10 and 2012-15 – the highest of any player in TNL history.
Dannie has represented Tasmania at 15&U, 17&U, 19&U and 21&U levels. She was a member of the Tasmanian ANL team Tassie Spirit in 2013, 2014 (where she was awarded Most Valuable Player) and 2015 (where she was team captain). In announcing her award as Tassie Spirit MVP in 2014 Netball Tasmania described the award as “the latest in a long string of awards and achievements in one of the most distinguished careers in recent memory”.
Aaron Pigeon is one of the most highly experienced, credentialed and respected netball coaches in Tasmania. He has described Dannie’s playing style in the following terms. “One of Dannie’s strengths in netball has always been her natural ability to read the play. In a sport bordering on conservative through heavy regulation, Dannie has been one of few players who has, over the past 5 years, pushed the boundaries and been ahead of the curve in her willingness to leave her player and attack the ball, and her strong attack on the contest – now such a regular part of the modern game.”
Dannie’s playing record and achievements speak for themselves. As a player Dannie was always supremely prepared in terms of fitness, mental application and the will-to-win. She was a fearless and intimidating opponent, fiercely determined to win the ball and to inspire her team to win the game. But always mindful and thinking first of the team, fair in her approach to the game and gracious in defeat.
She was and is a leader of the Cavaliers and more broadly she is a mentor and role model for the sport of Netball.
Dannie has made very significant and ongoing contributions to the functioning, development and well-being of the Cavaliers Netball Club for many years. Her contributions have been across most aspects of the Club’s activities including playing, coaching, junior development, administration and planning, fundraising and social events.
In a coaching and mentoring capacity Dannie has been heavily involved for an extensive period of time with Cavaliers junior development teams from 2003 to the present. She was Coach of the 19&U Cavs premiership team in 2006; replacement Open co-coach in 2008 with Amanda Cowley after Lou Carter resigned to take up the TIS coaching position; and playing coach of the Opens in 2010 (premiers), 2012, 2013 (undefeated premiers) and 2015.
On behalf of the Cavaliers Club she has organised and conducted an extensive program of coaching clinics in the NTNA, NENA and St Helens over a number of years and continues to offer her services as guest and specialist coach and umpire in the NTNA and NENA.
Dannie has maintained a keen and active involvement in Cavaliers Executive Committee meetings and has been a strong advocate for sound planning and a professional approach to all aspects of the Club’s activities. She has organised a number of Cavaliers social and fundraising functions including Trivia Nights and auctions.
Dannie has been deeply involved and a substantial contributor to the Cavaliers in so many off court activities including administration, sponsorship and fundraising, social events and junior development. The highest recognition in the Cavaliers for contributions in these areas is the award of the Club’s Support and Development Award (sponsored and nominated by Carolyn Kirkpatrick). Dannie has been the recipient of this award in 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2015.
Dannie has earned great respect as a leader and role model in the Cavaliers Netball Club and in the wider netball community. It is difficult to identify a person of Dannie’s age (or even someone much older) who has made more significant contributions to Netball and its communities across so many areas and for such an extended period of time.
As a player she has commanded the highest level of respect for her playing skills and leadership. On her appointment as Tassie Spirit captain in 2015 Alison Lai, the Mercury’s netball journalist, wrote “if the key role of being team captain is to inspire and motivate others, then there is no one better qualified than Dannie Carstens to captain the Tassie Spirit in the Australian Netball League”.
Dannie has also been committed to coaching at regional, State and elite representative levels, over and above her coaching contributions to the Cavaliers, including:
Her coaching ability and contributions were recognised in 2010 when she was externally nominated for the Tasmanian Sports Awards 2010 (Coach of the Year) and was announced as a finalist.
Dannie has answered the call for umpiring duties in the NTNA and regularly travels to Scottsdale to umpire NENA finals.
In a reference for Dannie in 2010 to support her application for the Cavaliers Open team coach position Aaron Pidgeon described her as “a determined and passionate lady” and wrote:
“Dannie is a very competitive person by nature. She believes without question that if you make a commitment to any endeavour, you must see that commitment through and give it 100% commitment at all times. Dannie has repeatedly shown this commitment to her sport, and to her club, through her actions on and off the court. Dannie wears her heart on her sleeve and does so with a high level of professionalism that has earned her the respect of players, coaches and officials throughout the State…. Perhaps Dannie’s greatest strength as a player and prospective coach is her leadership. Dannie is a born leader, inspiring others to play at levels often above their ability, and encouraging them to trust in her and follow her on the journey, with her infectious personality… I hold Dannie in very high regard as a person and as a netballer. I believe that she is an honest, hard-working person who shows respect to all involved in the sport, and has been a dedicated servant of Netball in the State for some time now.”
The Cavaliers have been blessed with so many players of the highest calibre in their twenty years of participation in State League competition. Dannie Carstens has been amongst the finest of these and a champion player, coach, leader and role model for the Cavaliers and the sport of netball.
During her career she was courageous in overcoming serious injury and in continuing to play at the highest level of intensity whilst managing a long term arthritic condition. Her playing record is highly distinguished but she would be embarrassed to have it described in this way.
The victories and premierships along the way have been a bonus – Dannie has played netball for the Cavaliers because she loves the game, her team mates and the Club.
And now the Club recognises Dannie Carstens as a most worthy inductee to the Cavaliers Hall of Fame.
